The principle of collage is central to Axel Pfennigschmidt’s work. His photographs, pictures and installations are the outcome of an open-ended ongoing process of gleaning, recycling, collecting, sorting and combining things that can be easily overlooked. By resituating such objets trouvés in new and sometimes unusual settings and contexts of meaning, he demonstrates that even mundane everyday items can have their own discreet aesthetic and that it always pays dividends to take a closer second look.
